Food Review – Restoran Shahira

Yesterday is the shop-till-I-drop day (I am.. looking at the contained of my tote bag and MYR that left in my purse)… I supposed to go with Apple (she wants to do her final shopping before her engagement) but she get caught to baby-sitting her uncle’s daughter so I make a detour and get myBoo to accompany me. Hahaha… I laugh coz I know he will not like the ideas of getting sweat in the always-jam-packed-with-people in KL heaven’s shopping street, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Masjid India. Precisely the place is not a shopping mall, it just a street selling local bargain where I always get my tudung and kain pasang for baju kurung here.

The idea of him tagging me bcoz of this place, Restoran Shahira located in Jalan Melayu along the way to Jalan Masjid India. This restaurant is our favourite place for lunch when we work around there last time. Sentimental a bit, looking over our path of love (erkk….. please bear with me). The biryani, tandoori and naan never disappointing. Even we keep gushing over it whenever we had tandoori at other place. Therefore, a chance to be around the area would not be missed.

We get our shopping done quickly, so by 1230pm we already in the restaurant. It never change, that’s what we thought. The cook, the restaurant layout, everything all same. Only the waiter did change one or two person. We ordered biryani, chicken tandoori, naan cheese and Ayam Masala. Even I had to waited for 15 minutes for the Ayam Masala (they still cook it when we arrive there) but it worth. The chicken was tender and the gravy was delicious, not too sweet, and not too hot. The tandoori were crispy outside and juicy once u put it in your mouth. It will always be our favourite place of tandoori. Owh…. Writing this entry makes my mouth watering. Gonna get myself warm water to drink (I can’t eat, its late night and I’m on diet….. hehe… trying to). Till then~~

Food Review – Ruz Aladdin

Who is a fan of biryani? Hands up!! I am not really a big fan of biryani I admit that. In fact, before knowing myBoo I never had biryani in my life. Simply bcoz I do not like it. Knowing him, I change my perspective and slowly I took the Indian cuisine to my food regime. Did biryani really is Indian cuisine? As I can see that, many Malays claimed biryani is rooted from Malay legacy. Anyhow, we are One Malaysia. As people say, sharing is caring. From my research, biryani originally came from Middle East to India then to Malay Archipelago. Cooked from basmathi rice, this fragrant and flavourful rice is a main dish in most ceremony besides nasi minyak.

Recently we (myBoo and me) decide to try on one of the famous biryani restaurant located in Ampang, Ruz Aladdin. The restaurant is besides Flamingo Hotel and accessible through MRR2 and Jalan Ampang. They also have one more branch in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), where indeed we prefer to go lately due to the less traffic jam, no hassle to find parking and the ambient (for me ya..) more comfortable.

We ordered Beriani Ayam Merah, Beriani Ayam Goreng and Soto. The biryani rice was flavourful, u can taste the herbs cooked with the rice. The biryani set comes with dalca gravy, acar (cucumber pickles), curry and papadom. Portion here is big, please come with empty stomach, u will never regret. As for the Soto, there is nothing to shout about. For me, it could be much better. Somehow, I can taste turmeric in my Soto. What did turmeric do in Soto soup? I have no ideas.

Do try their Lychee Kang and Sirap Bandung Johor. Both were refreshing in hot day. The Lychee Kang is generous with the condiments while the Sirap Bandung has mixtures of ice cream soda. Its remind me of Soda Gembira we often had in Warong Ayam Penyet.

Lychee Kang
Overall, we are happy with the services, food quality and price of this restaurant. Nevertheless, Ruz Aladdin now is in our regular restaurant to visit. Thumbs up from us!

Story of Yesterday

Hiyaaa…. Yesterday, early morning I was in Hospital Sungai Buloh, sending my dad for his checkup. Tagged along was my mum. I was fully armed with iPod and novels and 1001 circumstances on what could and would happen while we were there. Ok I know it’s too much and prejudice but I had enough experienced before at Hospital Putrajaya (same… sending my dad for his checkup) where me, my mum and sissy waited for a day (until I can absorbed all the staff’s name, pamphlet, organization chart and what-so-ever they putting on the wall) and lastly they said my dad was OK and can go back home. Sadly, I keep asking them since my dad admitted at morning for an update, whether we need to wait or can we go back for a moment then come back later (my bro house is nearby) but no one could give me exact answer. Either ‘not sure’ or ‘I will check for u’. Note: they come back and said ‘not sure about his condition but we will check’. So I’m trying not to be narrow-minded about this round, things changed right! We reach there 720am, wait until 830am only the doctor comes in. plus minus the entire checkup, scan everything around 915am all completed. Thank God! Heading to the café we had breakfast before make a move headed hometown. See, things changed. Hahaha…
My dad was very excited. Reaching home, he changed cloth and get some young coconut for our lunch. Haha… it tastes very good, not like the one we can get from pasar malam or restaurant. Freshly pluck from the tree. After rest for a few hours, I headed back to KL. Dinner with myBoo at Hartamas, our a-must-go restaurant where we ranked as the best lamb biryani. Actually we were hesitate for a first since last two visits there we are disappointed with the quality and quantity of the lamb biryani. But we give it a go, last call we said. It’s not wasted the journey from home there with all the traffics, coz it comes back to the taste like what we had for the very last 2 years! We are fully recommended lamb biryani here at Spicy Restaurant, opposite Burger King in Hartamas. It is affordable. Total our dinner, lamb biryani + roti canai + watermelon juice + teh tarik + can drink is only MYR25.
